I discovered my passion for filmmaking around the age of 12, shooting with the family camcorder and editing using a trusty VCR and the pause/record button. Later, I thankfully discovered non-linear editing and shot, produced, edited and directed a number of award-winning short films. It was through this that I decided to focus on the one role that I consistently found the most fascinating... and the most captivating: editing.

I gained important cutting room experience working as an editing trainee on Batman Begins and subsequently worked on a number of big budget features including The Da Vinci Code and Bourne Ultimatum. In 2007, I graduated with a Distinction from the National Film and Television School's two year MA programme specialising in editing, where I gained invaluable experience working with a wide range of directors on a variety of films.

As a freelancer, I have since worked on a diverse range of projects including features, TV drama, short films, documentaries and commercials.

I edited three episodes of Cast Offs, a mockumentary-style TV drama series for Channel 4 about a group of disabled people who are marooned on a remote island for a fictional reality TV show; the series was nominated for 'Best Drama Series' at Royal Television Society Awards, 'Most Groundbreaking Programme' at the Cultural Diversity Network Awards and a Rose D'Or. It was also the winner of Radar's 'People of the Year Human Rights Award 2010 for Fictional Media'.

I have recently done some editing on Channel 4 drama series Sirens and comedy drama series Fresh Meat, which won 'Best New Comedy' at the British Comedy Awards.

I have also edited a number of commercials including a Coca-Cola advert for the UEFA 2012 Euro Cup, adverts featuring the CGI meerkat Aleksandr Orlov for Compare the Market and the animated cinematic for the computer game The Beatles: Rockband, which won a Sliver Clio, the 'Advertising Award' at Annecy Film Festival and 'Best Commissioned Animation' at British Animation Awards.

I have just completed editing a 3D children's feature film starring Heather Graham, called The Flying Machine, which premiered at TIFF in September 2011; the film combines stop-motion animation, CGI and live-action and features the music of Chopin performed by famed pianist Lang Lang.

I own my own Avid Media Composer and Final Cut Pro edit systems and have worked with super16 / 35mm film. I am also a proficient French speaker.

Some references from people I have worked with:

"Dan is smart, hard working, innovative and a delight to work with. He both supports and asks the right questions - an exciting mix - exactly what you need in an editor. I used to think his strength was his technical ability and flare with cuts, now I think it's that mixed with an intuitive understanding of what the project needs and a nose for both atmosphere and story. That combination is rare. I look forward to working with him again soon."
Director of Skirt, Sirens and Cast Offs, Amanda Boyle

"Over and above his versatility as a narrative editor - finessing and enhancing dialogue, action, comedy and musical scenes with equal grace - [Daniel] was the calmest and most savvy pair of hands in building a technically super-complex story that combined 3D live action and animation with a heavy proportion of blue-screen and vfx work. This was my first collaboration with Dan and I hope to repeat the experience soon."
Director of The Flying Machine, Geoff Lindsey

"Our extended schedule meant that our lead editor wasn't able to do the final notes from the Channel - so [director Amanda Boyle] asked if Dan might come in to finish off the episode. Dan slotted in seamlessly and did the notes with aplomb. I'd highly recommend him."
Producer of Sirens, Chris Clough
